Is Caffeine The Root Cause Of Your Health Concern?

Ever wonder if caffeine use is the right thing for you? To be honest, it really depends on the person. (Probably not the answer you wanted to hear). It’s true; there are definitely benefits to caffeine, BUT how and when to use it is everything!

For example, too much caffeine consumption can cause an increase in anxiety. If there’s HPA axis dysfunction or adrenal communication issues, or even liver detoxification issues, you’re way more likely to feel anxiety with caffeine. For those that do not feel more anxious after drinking coffee, awesome! However, finding your limit and what works best for you is key!

Caffeine is found in other variables

Although coffee and tea are the most concentrated sources of caffeine, it’s also found in soda, cocoa, energy drinks, and several types of medication. Let’s jump into some other example

  • Protein Bars

  • Green Tea

  • Chocolate

  • Decaffeinated Coffee (small amounts)

  • Pain relievers

  • Energy water

  • Weight-loss supplements

  • Alcoholic energy drinks

  • Breath fresheners

  • Some pre-workout mixes

The truth is, caffeine hides in all sorts of things you may not be aware of, and having too much of it can result in other health-related struggles. As-a-matter-of-fact, you might not even realize that caffeine is the trigger for your health concerns.

What are the side-effects of too much caffeine?

  • Fatigue

  • Insomnia

  • Digestive issues

  • Muscle breakdown

  • Caffeine addiction

  • High blood pressure

  • Rapid heart rate

  • Frequent urination and urgency

Obviously struggling with any of these symptoms can make the day-to-day living extremely difficult and there are other factors that may go into these. If you think your caffeine intake may be creepin up there and you want a reset, I strongly encourage taking a break from it and then using it in smaller amounts as tolerated.

What withdrawals will I have if I cut out caffeine completely?

Now, I’m not saying you need to cut out caffeine completely (light-to-moderate caffeine intake seems to provide impressive health benefits in many people). What I am saying is that finding what you can/cannot handle is everything! I highly suggest weaning back on your caffeine intake at first, but if you’re a cold turkey type, go for it. Just hydrate and just know you might experience the following:

  • Headaches

  • Fatigue

  • Low energy

  • Irritability

  • Poor concentration
